MTN connects into Etisalat SmartHub

Middle Eastern operator Etisalat has partnered with African company MTN Group to extend the African company’s regional network reach via Etisalat SmartHub.

MTN will connect to Etisalat’s SmartHub in Fujairah and the move is intended to further expand its advanced data network capabilities.

The Etisalat SmartHub, which provides advanced content, IP, IX and data services for its customers in the UAE, launched earlier this year.

The partnership with MTN will also enable the connection of a new route to Europe, benefitting its large customer base in the Middle East.

SmartHub is a global communications hub facilitating direct routing of traffic between the Middle East, Africa, Asia and Europe.

“We are delighted to have such a prestigious telecom group as MTN join the SmartHub community of operators and content providers. SmartHub is designed to provide our partners with a one stop shop for connectivity to the region,” said Ali Amiri, EVP of carrier and wholesale services at Etisalat.

“This partnership with MTN showcases the importance of the SmartHub as well as puts UAE in the limelight as the regional hub for telecom services. We look forward to a mutually beneficial relationship and enhancing customer experience.”

MTN’s group chief technology and information officer, Jyoti Desai, said that access to Etisalat’s SmartHub is an important step in establishing a multi-services network.

“The rising significance of UAE’s strategic position as the communication network hub for the Middle East and Africa region underpins the importance of this partnership in our expansion,” she added.
