Telefónica subsidiary Movistar has commercially launched its 4G LTE network in Chile. The telco is using spectrum in the 2.6GHz band in the country and during its press launch, demonstrated download and upload speeds of 95Mbps and 36Mbps, respectively. [read more]

 

Slovak Telekom has started the launch of its 4G LTE network in five cities in Slovakia. The cities of Trnava, Nitra, Žilina, Banská Bystrica and Prešov are among those in the initial roll-out, and the company plans to cover 20% of the country in the next three months. [read more]

 

Deutsche Telekom ICSS has launched its LTE Diameter Signaling service, enabling its customers to roam over 4G networks while abroad. Launched via its IPX, the service aims to overcome interoperability issues and is said to enable seamless roaming across different mobile standards. [read more]

 

Optical transport solutions provider Coriant has announced a project with Poland-based, fixed-line operator Netia, to trial DWDM technology and deploy 400G in the region. The companies claim it will be the first 400G solution in the region, and is designed to meet the increasing demand for bandwidth, in addition to offering richer solutions to customers. California-based co-location provider Hurricane Electric has connected to six additional internet exchanges across eastern Europe. Claimed to be the world’s largest IPv6-native internet backbone, Hurricane Electric has connected to the Budapest Internet Exchange (BIX), Balkan Internet Exchange (B-IX), Bulgarian Internet Exchange (BIX.BG), InterLAN Exchange, NetIX and the Romanian Network Internet Exchange (RoNIX). Level 3 Communications has expanded and upgraded its Latin American network, in response to increased demand for IP solutions in the region. The company has invested in network developments across Argentina, Brazil, Colombia and Venezuela. [read more]

TeliaSonera International Carrier (TSIC) has completed a major North American network expansion. The European-based carrier has added 11,500 fibre miles to its global backbone, and will further extend its reach to 44 American cities by December 31 2014. [read more]



 

Interoute plans to expand deeper into the Russian enterprise segment, following its successful partnership with MegaFon on the DREAM (Diverse Route for European and Asian Markets) project. The operator is delivering connectivity across Europe for the terrestrial route, which went live last month and claims to offer the lowest latency between China and Europe. [read more]

Indian operator Bharti Airtel has floated a request for proposal (RFP) to upgrade its 3G network in the country. A document from Airtel to India’s telecoms regulator, Trai, read: “This RFP is to facilitate the selection of the supplier for the supply of best-in-class 3G network solutions and related services.” [read more]
