Slovak Telekom launches nationwide LTE

Slovak Telekom has started the launch of its 4G LTE network in five cities in Slovakia.

The cities of Trnava, Nitra, Žilina, Banská Bystrica and Prešov are among those in the initial roll-out, and the company plans to cover 20% of the country in the next three months.

The company is utilising spectrum on the 1800MHz band and Miroslav Majoros, chairman and CEO at Slovak Telekom, claims the deployment is the first 4G network in the country.

“This is the new generation of mobile networks, which will bring even faster downloads, shorter network responses and will enable customers to make better use of their smartphones, tablets and apps,” Majoros said.

“This 4G/LTE technology...confirms our position as a leader in technology and innovation in Slovakia.”

Majoros said the mobile network will be the most advanced in Slovakia, and he expects to expand it further across the country in 2014.

Slovakian regulators announced its 4G auction earlier this year, of which Slovak Telekom was a key player against rivals Orange and Telefónica Czech Republic.
