Telefónica launches M2M certification programme

Spanish operator Telefónica has launched its Global M2M Module Certification Programme, designed to support the customer launch of M2M products.

The programme is intended to allow customers to deliver high service quality through Telefónica-certified technology.

Telefónica has teamed up with a number of M2M cellular module vendors – including Sierra Wireless, Telit and u-blox – in order to certify its products.

Customers are now expected to be able to select the right M2M technology for their solution with ease, allowing them to remain focussed on their core business.

“We strongly believe that this type of programme can bring applications faster to the market, and is therefore a key advantage for M2M,” said Olivier Beaujard, VP of market development at Sierra Wireless.

Telefónica-certified modules are designed to be reliable for end-to-end solutions, and consequently accelerate the migration of M2M devices on to Telefónica networks.

Surya Mendonça, global M2M director at Telefónica Digital, said: “We provide our clients with all the know-how of machine-to-machine technology in order to assure that their M2M solutions are working properly.”

Last November, Telefónica integrated its M2M Smart Cities product into a global solution, in a bid to broaden the M2M ecosystem.
