Asiacell names new CEO

Iraq’s second-largest operator, Asiacell, has finally named a new CEO, following the departure of Fiar Ahmed over seven months ago.

Amer al-Sunna will assume the role, Asiacell’s parent company Ooredoo said today.

Sunna had previously been a part of Ooredoo’s operations in Jordan and the Philippines, before joining Asiacell as managing director in February.

Asiacell initially claimed Ahmed would stay as CEO until a successor was found, after he resigned to become chief adviser to the company’s chairman, Faruq Mustafa Rasul.

Reuters suggests he only remained in the post as CEO until July 2013, however.

Ooredoo owns a 64% stake in Asiacell, which made a net profit of $141.8 million in Q2 this year, with a 36% share of Iraq’s mobile subscribers at the end of June.
