Four Etisalat units join UAE SmartHub

Etisalat has today announced that four of its operating countries (OpCos) have joined its SmartHub IPX in the UAE.

Etisalat Afghanistan, Etisalat Egypt, Etisalat Nigeria and Etisalat Sri Lanka have joined the hub in a bid to enhance international mobile services.

“We are delighted to have our group companies as key members of our growing SmartHub IPX community of mobile operators,” said Ali Amiri, EVP of carrier and wholesale services at Etisalat.

“IPX is an important strategic initiative which will provide the foundation for virtually all future advanced international mobile services, including faster access to mobile internet content.”

Etisalat’s SmartHub IPX – claimed to be the first and only of its kind in the Middle East – is a GSMA standard based global hub for mobile operators, designed to broaden international voice, signalling and data exchange services across a single connection.

“The joining of these OpCos will make UAE the regional centre for mobile internet content, the fastest growth area globally,” Amiri added.

Last week Epsilon signed a deal to deploy its Middle Eastern network exchange at the SmartHub facility.
