América Móvil eyes KPN potential

América Móvil reportedly wants to “unlock value” from Dutch firm KPN, and is not just interested in its German arm, E-Plus.

Last Friday, Carlos Slim’s América Móvil put forward a €7.2 billion bid for KPN, and today, Carlos García Moreno, CFO at América Móvil, reiterated its interest in KPN to local reporters.

“[KPN] is a great company with great possessions,” he said. “They only need to unlock the hidden long-term value.”

Moreno said that América Móvil had not yet confirmed its position with E-Plus, and that it was premature to comment on details following a successful acquisition.

The company’s bid for the Dutch company comes just over two weeks after rival operator Telefónica Deutschland had an offer for E-Plus approved by KPN.
