A1 Telekom Austria selects Coriant for network capacity upgrade

Telekom Austria’s Austrian subsidiary, A1, has partnered with German solutions provider Coriant to increase the capacity on its network infrastructure.

Coriant will deploy its intelligent optical transport platform on A1’s DWDM network, in order to enhance the performance of its fixed-line and mobile services offerings.

“We selected Coriant not only for the superior performance of its coherent optical transport system, but also for the embedded system intelligence that allows us to simplify operations, speed the provisioning of network capacity, and adapt to the dynamic, real-time needs of today’s end-user applications,” said Marcus Grausam, CTO at A1.

A1 hopes the partnership with Coriant to allow the Austrian firm to manage its optical service connections centrally through Coriant’s management system, as well automate traditionally manual tasks, saving time and expense.

“We are pleased to be a strategic supplier to the Teleckm Austria Group and help them unleash the service potential of A1’s intelligent optical network,” said Herbert Merz, CEO and president at Coriant.

“As demands on backbone networks become more and more unpredictable, network operators like A1 require solutions that can easily scale and adapt to dynamic traffic patterns while delivering the operational benefits that allow them to manage their services more efficiently.”

A1’s DWDM network connects Vienna in Switzerland to all major Austrian cities, and at this year’s ITW in Chicago, Telekom Austria announced the launch of its 100G network in central and Eastern Europe.
