Sunrise buys Ortel Mobile to increase prepaid mobile foothold

Swiss-based Sunrise Communications has acquired Ortel Mobile as part of its drive to position itself as the number one provider in the prepaid mobile market.

In addition to its own brand, yallo, as well its previous acquisition of Lebara Mobile, the new company will help Sunrise continue to gain market share on the low-cost international calls and data sector.

Libor Voncina, CEO of Sunrise said: “The announced merger of Ortel Mobile, and the purchase of Lebara, will reinforce Sunrise customers that our focus is on prepaid mobile services in general. Our activities will be focused on the multicultural customer groups in particular.”

Founded in 2011, Ortel Mobile was previously owned by KPN before being sold to Treternity AG in December 2012.
