Omantel extends LTE coverage

Oman’s Omantel has announced additional 4G LTE coverage in the country as part of its strategy for enhanced broadband connectivity.

The expansion is designed to deliver more choice, wider coverage, and better quality services to Omantel customers, and comes one year after the initial network was launched.

The company’s LTE network now covers 37 provinces, or wilayats, in 11 governorates across Oman, including: Muscat, north and south Batinah, Dhofar, Musandam, Buraimi, north and south Sharqiyah, Dhahirah, Dakhiliyah, and Wusta.

“We are committed to providing the best broadband experience to our customers,” said Abdullah al Hamer, general manager of network planning design at Omantel.

“In April, we announced our commitment to build out broadband networks to cover 95% of the population. That plan is being actualised with more than 400 sites enjoying 4G LTE coverage across the Sultanate so far.”

Following what the company has noted as a period of intense growth in mobile broadband traffic, Omantel hopes to expand its 4G coverage further, as well as focus on enhancing its 3.5G network across the country.

With a Q1 net profit decline posted in May this year, the expansion, and a recent interconnectivity agreement signed with Batelco, could provide Omantel with a much-needed boost.
