Monaco Telecom signs connectivity deal with Level 3

Monaco Telecom’s partnership with Level 3 Communications signals the increasing demand in Monaco for faster connections, the company’s CEO Martin Peronnet told Capacity exclusively today.

Both companies partnered in a deal which will enable the principality of Monaco to connect to Level 3’s global internet backbone.

Peronnet explained the threefold benefits of the agreement in an interview with Capacity.

“The first is to allow Level 3 to operate new services for their existing customers; two, to have direct internet connectivity from Monaco at Level 3 through a PoP, and three, to distribute Level 3’s products to our customers,” Peronnet said.

Peronnet notes demands in Monaco did not exist a few years ago and hopes that the partnership will address this by providing a faster and more stable connection into and out of the area.

“In Monaco there are about two times more jobs than residents,” he said.

“They need more and more international connectivity, and hosting solutions.”

Level 3’s PoP will be based in the centre of Monaco, and Emmanuel Arnould, director of sales for southern Europe, Middle-East and Africa at Level 3, told Capacity that its location will ensure a high level of protection.

“It will provide increased availability and performance both to retail and business customers of Monaco Telecom,” he added

The PoP is set to be operational between September and October this year and both companies expect the deal to be mutually complementary.

“It’s really a win-win partnership and that seems to be very rare at the moment,” Arnould concluded.
