Ericsson delivers HD television services in Thailand

Thai cable and satellite provider, TrueVisions, has selected Ericsson to upgrade its video compression system.

The upgrade is expected to enable TrueVisions to offer high-definition channels at a much higher quality to its subscribers.

“We place a huge amount of importance on picture quality and overall experience,” said Vichai Sernvongsat, CTO at TrueVisions.

“Our long-established partnership with Ericsson left us in no doubt that this upgrade to our existing system would provide the quality and reliability we need to provide more high-definition services to our subscribers.”

Ericsson’s technology reportedly allows TrueVisions to reduce its transmission opex, launch additional services and lower running costs by decreasing power and cooling requirements.

“As high-definition continues to gain momentum across the Asia Pacific region, we are providing the solutions that enable operators to meet the increasing consumer demand for superior TV experiences and enhanced picture quality,” said Ward Hansford, head of APAC region for the TV compression business at Ericsson.

This commitment to the Asia-Pacific is reflected in Ericsson’s recent partnerships; one with DiGi Telecommunciations in Malaysia for an M2M platform in May, and another with Bhutan Telecom in February for the deployment of its 4G network.
