Karim Michel Sabbagh appointed president and CEO of SES

Satellite provider SES has appointed Karim Michel Sabbagh as president and CEO of the company, following Romain Bausch’s plans for resignation.

Sabbagh has been a member of the SES board since April 2011, and, until recently, worked for Booz & Company as senior partner, and global and regional practice leader for communications, media and technology.

He is expected to bring considerable industry expertise to the role, and will be largely responsible for the company’s focus on emerging markets.

“Karim’s vast knowledge of our industry, his experience in the emerging markets as well as his management skills will further enable the company’s growth potential,” said René Steichen, chairman of the board of SES.

Romain Bausch has served as president and CEO of SES since 1995, and will continue to act as non-executive director of the company following his departure.

Steichen commended Bausch’s “vision, leadership, exceptional institutional relationship-building and commitment to the company” and is confident that the appointment of Sabbagh has ensured a “strong succession and flawless transition”.

Sabbagh will join the company on September 1 2013 as CEO Designate, and, following a transition period, will take on his official role as president and CEO on April 3 2014.

As part of its focus on emerging markets, SES increased its capacity partnership deal with Telekom Srbija earlier this year.
