SingTel has reportedly offered international connectivity assistance in a bid to sweeten regulators, and pledged to build a mobile network capable of covering up to 95% of the country within 36 months should it win a licence.
The consortium, which also consists of KBZ Group and Myanmar Telephone Co, would ensure provisions and coverage would far exceed the minimum requirements for the tender.
SingTel said it was further committed to launching a national Myanmar satellite, while promoting the inclusion of the company in building the SEA-ME-WE 5 subsea cable.
SingTel CEO Mark Chong said: “We want to bring more than just a domestic telecoms infrastructure. We will bring international connectivity.”
12 companies have been shortlisted for the tenderof two mobile licences, with the winners set to be announced at the end of the month.
Vodafone and China Mobile submitted a joint application, but pulled out just before the deadline to issue a finalbid at the beginning of June.
