Telefónica and Megafon pen strategic partnership

Telefónica has signed a deal with Megafon which will see the Russian operator join Telefónica’s Partners Programme.

The Partners Programme is designed to enable telecommunications operators worldwide to work together and benefit from Telefónica’s global scale and expertise.

The partnership is hoped to allow the two companies to exchange technological knowledge, and better cost optimisation in equipment purchases.

“Joining Telefónica’s Partners Programme is in line with MegaFon’s long-term strategy focussed on efficient growth, mobile internet service development and enhancement of the customer experience,” said Ivan Tavrin, CEO of MegaFon.

“This agreement enables us to work with the best international professionals to use their experience in improving quality of services, customer relationship management and in new product development.”

Under terms of the agreement, Telefónica is expected to use Megafon’s network to provide services to its international clients.

Future prospects of the partnership are thought to include the possibility of developing new businesses in OTT, cloud and M2M.

“We are committed to jointly work to take advantage of our outstanding strategic alignment and to make available the benefits of Telefónica’s scale and breadth of business through the Telefónica Partners Program, as well as to tackle together the challenges the industry transition is posing to operators worldwide,” said Eduardo Navarro, chief strategy and alliances officer at Telefónica Group.
