Deutsche Telekom set for wholesale expansion
Deutsche Telekom’s Business Development and Innovation (BDI) unit has earmarked an increased focus in wholesale services after revealing plans to launch CDN and cloud delivery optimisation services.
The German operator confirmed to Capacity that it is looking to further develop multi vendor hosting and delivery solutions, reinforcing long-term plans to develop its international wholesale offering.
“DT is continuously evolving its CDN portfolio on a national and international level where options are still open. DT is always looking for the best solutions to meet its customers' expectations and the addition of a cloud-based web performance offer was a logic step to be taken,” Karim E Khazen, VP of BDI at Deutsche Telekom told Capacity.
The launch of these services reflects what El-Khazen describes as a shift towards multi rather than single-sourcing solutions for hosting and delivery of content in the telecoms industry.
“As part of the international wholesale unit within DT, we opted for a solution to complement our existing internationally available portfolio in IP transit and CDN,” he says.
As part of the development, Deutsche Telekom has partnered with cloud engineering firm Cedexis.
El-Khazen added that the deal allows BDI to provide its clients with a global offer without being restricted to a single path.
Furthermore he expects the service to deliver end-users, who now expect instant, high-quality access, regardless of location, with an enhanced online experience.
The services, ‘NetAnalyze’ and ‘NetOptimize’ work together to create a solution with the first analysing the situation, and the second acting upon the analysis.
“NetAnalyze provides an independent examination of how the end user experiences our customers' content at any particular moment – it is done by delivering a technology to measure network response times,” El-Khazen explains.
“Once it is understood where delivery can be improved, NetOptimize goes to work – it chooses the best provider available to our customer through a mutli-sourcing approach that fulfils the needed performance and/or quality criteria set up by our customer.”
