Ooredoo partners with Tata to launch IPX+ network

Middle East operator Ooredoo has partnered with Tata Communications to launch what it claims to be the region’s first IPX+ enabled network.

Using Tata Communications’ IPX+ platform, Ooredoo has launched the service to enhance its mobile broadband delivery services.

Tata claims its IPX+ platform will offer improved quality and transition of all the operator’s services, including 4G, to an IP-based network to meet increased demand.

The Indian-based operator projects that global mobile data traffic will increase 13 times in a five-year period leading to 2017.

Ooredoo has initially launched voice over the IPX+ platform and has plans to consolidate the entire network to an IP-based backbone.

“We’re confident that Tata Communications is well placed to help us migrate to IPX which will enable us to roll out more innovative and tailored services to our customers across the Middle East, North Africa and Southeast Asia,” said Yousuf Abdulla Al-Kubaisi, chief wholesale and international operator at Ooredoo.
