Telekom Austria Group launches 100G in CEE

Telekom Austria Group has today launched its 100G network spanning Central and Eastern Europe.

The first section of the network from Zagreb to Osijek and Ilok in Croatia is operational following a successful trial.

The company expects the 100G network to address the growing demand from customers for high-speed services in the region.

“In the last few months we have further optimised the Telekom Austria Group backbone enabling it to provide service capacities of up to 100 Gbps. As a result, native 100G bandwidth services are immediately available with increased speed and scalability,” said Stefan Amon, head of the wholesale department at the Telekom Austria Group.

“By both optimising network design and upgrading infrastructure the Group is now able to even achieve increased profitability.”

Telekom Austria Group expects to have 100G services running on the route from Frankfurt to Sofia by the end of Q2 this year, and it’s remaining PoPs – in Vienna, Sofia, Belgrade, Zagreb, Bucharest, Budapest, Ivancice and Salzburg – connected by the end of Q4.

The launch of the network could provide a much needed boost for Telekom Austria Group which forecasted a drop in revenues for 2013 earlier this year.
