Telenor Pakistan network upgrade in motion

Telenor Pakistan’s network will be fully upgraded to 3G by the end of the year according to a company source.

Gyorgy Koller, CTO at the company, told local reporters that it is on track to achieve its goal, despite the network modernisation which has reportedly caused some disruption to service quality.

The upgrade, according to Koller, is designed to not only provide premium services, but also to be environmentally friendly and energy efficient.

“There are also two major advantages of this exercise for stakeholders; first and the most obvious one being the 3G ready network, which will obviously be superior in quality due to use of latest technology and will optimise bandwidth provision,” Koller told local sources.

“Secondly, the overall benefit of the modern equipment in terms of it being energy efficient and less resource taxing on already scarce energy resources of Pakistan.”

The upgrade follows movements from other operators looking to expand services across the country, as Mulitinet Pakistan announced the next phase of its network roll-outearlier this month.
