NTT Communications has selected Alcatel-Lucent to improve its VPN services for business customers by deploying the vendor’s IP-based multi service edge routers. The move is intended to boost speed, performance and cost efficiency within NTT’s VPN enterprise services. [read more]



 

CenturyLink has announced the deployment of Ciena’s Packet-Optical Platform, across its network to upgrade services. Ciena’s coherent optical technology, Wave Logic, is expected to enable CenturyLink a broader range of high-speed services ranging from 1G to 100G, as well as equivalent wavelengths to businesses in the US and other international cities. Bharti Airtel has announced the launch of LTE services for customers in Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula, in the Punjab region of India. The company expects the LTE technology to provide end-users with superfast data services, allowing them to benefit from HD video streaming, instant photo uploads and rich content downloads. TeliaSonera International Carrier (TSIC) claims to have launched the first 100G network that covers both Europe and North America. The Stockholm-based telecoms giant has reached the speed following an upgrade of their pan-European network. [read more]




 

Telstra Global has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with SubPartners to acquire a fibre pair on the Perth to Singapore route from the APX West submarine cable. SubPartners is an Australian-based submarine cable group, and construction is expected to commence in the middle of this year, with an estimated completion date in Q4 of 2014. [read more]




 

Deutsche Telekom has struck an M2M service agreement with Swiss-based cargo monitoring service provider arviem AG. The partnership offers both parties a monitoring solution for freight consignments, and it is thought to be an important development in providing solutions based on M2M communications. Middle Eastern operator Nawras plans to invest $350 million on its network infrastructure over the next three years. Oman’s second largest operator has already spent $150 million on upgrading its network in the past five months. US-based solutions provider CommScope has acquired all assets of data centre infrastructure management (DCIM) company, iTRACS Corporation. iTRACS was formerly privately-held in Arizona, US, and its 25-year experience in the industry is expected to enable CommScope to offer comprehensive infrastructure management platforms, allowing customers to optimise the strategic value of their assets.
