China could roll out 4G licences this year

China Mobile has said it expects 4G licences in the country to be issued at the end of the year.

According to a report issued in Reuters today, China Mobile has echoed comments from a senior Chinese official last week, which suggested the government would end China’s long wait for 4G mobile services.

The company’s chairman, Xi Guohua, was speaking at an earnings briefing, after it posted a 2.7% rise in 2012 net profit, the slowest in three years.

China Mobile said it would spend $6.71 billion on developing its 4G network this year.
