Ericsson partners with Atlantique Telecom for African managed services

Ericsson has signed a managed services agreement with Atlantique Telecom, part of the Etisalat Group.

As part of the five-year contract Ericsson will manage all of Atlantique Telecom’s mobile networks, enabling the operator to focus instead on its core business of delivering innovative offerings to its customers.

"With the evolution of the competitive landscape in our markets, we need to adapt our operating model to provide a better service to our end users,” said Nagi Abboud, CEO at Atlantique Telecom.

“Adopting this business outsourcing model is therefore an important step in our group strategy execution that will be for the benefit of our subscribers, who remain our top priority, and this will, as well, open new growth opportunities to our employees."

The deal encompasses network operations, field maintenance, network optimisation and spare parts management for Etisalat’s multivendor mobile networks such as core and transmission, access and value-added services.

"Managed services is a proven business model to support operators in growth mode and it is one of the most dynamic areas in our industry,” said Lars Lindén, head of Ericsson in the sub-Saharan Africa region. “Our work together will support Atlantique Telecom in defining a new generation of operators in Africa."

The partnership follows Ericsson’s recent agreement with ITPC to upgrade its wireline network.
