AT&T has extended its cloud-based, UC (Unified Communications) services portfolio to be made available in the US and a further 48 countries worldwide. The US operator said the solution was designed to enable businesses to adopt and adjust flexible working environments, allowing business communities across the world to connect. [read more] >




 

AMS-IX has partnered with Etisalat to provide the operator’s Smarthub IX customers with access to the Amsterdam internet exchange. Utilising the Smarthub IX platform, AMS-IX will now gain access to over 550 connected IP networks, according to Etisalat, and allows both companies to further integrate through peering, including increasing network reach, traffic and routes. Bosnian-based BH Telecom has chosen Nokia Siemens Networks to upgrade its network and provide 3G mobile broadband services across areas in its home market. Nokia Siemens Networks will roll out 3G deployment on the 2100MHz and 900MHz bands designed to give greater coverage, as well as dual cell HSPA+ for higher data speeds. [read more] >




 

Level 3 has announced an agreement with Etisalat to host its content delivery network (CDN) node. The node will connect to Level 3’s global CDN and will be hosted within Etisalat’s Smarthub facility. It is said to provide network reach, performance and scalability to Etisalat and its regional customers. It is hoped the move will help localise delivery of internet traffic to support growth in the Middle East region. [read more] >



 

NTT Communications is aggressively targeting cloud expansion across Asia to cater to the increasing amount of western enterprises setting up operations in the region. The Japanese company announced the first phase launch of its new SDN-based global cloud platform last month and NTT told Capacity it is presently embarking on the second phase of the project. The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) has selected Alcatel-Lucent to help deliver data, video and voice services to its hospitals. Alcatel-Lucent is said to be supplying UPMC with its 7950 XRS core router and 100G solutions to upgrade its IT network and leverage large set of complex data. [read more] >



 

Monitoring solutions provider Astellia has signed an agreement with Unitel Angola to use its troubleshooting and performance monitoring systems to provide a complete picture of the Angolan telco’s 2G, 3G and 4G mobile traffic from radio access network (RAN). [read more] >

Dallas-based wireless supplier MetroPCS has selected Ericsson as equipment supplier for the transformation of its evolved packet core network. The University of Nottingham has signed an agreement with Telstra Global to provide a fully managed Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) network to connect its campuses in the UK and Asia. The three-year partnership is expected to result in a robust and reliable communications network between its main centre in Nottingham and international campuses in Malaysia and China. [read more] >
