Telstra has selected Ericsson’s 100Gbps next-generation optical network equipment for its long-haul, regional and metro networks across Australia. The deployment is aimed at meeting demand for video, broadband and cloud -based services. Ericsson’s optical network solution includes 100Gbps transmission, reconfigurable optical add drop multiplexer and DWDM technology. [read more] >



 

Ukrainian operator, Datagroup, has chosen optical equipment supplier, Ekinops, to deploy its coherent 100G systems across the long-haul Ukrainian network. Datagroup had been seeking a cost-effective solution that would offer higher capacity and faster network speeds. [read more] >



 

Alcatel-Lucent and Telenor India have established a managed and transformation services partnership for operations in India. Alcatel-Lucent will provide the services to Telewings Communications, a company fully-owned by Telenor Group, covering over 257 million people across the states of Gujarat, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh. Brazilian operator Telefónica Brasil is planning to increase its investments this year by boosting broadband speeds. Revenue from its fixed-line operations continues to suffer from increasing competition, and the company is budgeting for a rise of up to 12% on capital spending in 2013 from last year. ST-Ericsson and its parent company, Ericsson, have announced the successful demonstration of what is claimed to be the world’s first dual mode, high-definition VoLTE connection between LTE FDD and LTE TDD (TD-LTE). The demonstration was conducted with China Mobile at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this week, and used ST-Ericsson’s LTE multimode modem to connect to Ericsson’s LTE FDD/TDD converged network and mature IMS (IP multimedia subsystems) platform. Zain Kuwait has signed an MoU with Huawei to establish a joint innovation centre in the country. The centre will be focussed on the advancement of LTE technology and associated with LTE applications for Zain’s mobile customers across the region. It is claimed that the joint innovation centre will support Zain in enhancing its service offerings and realising additional revenue streams through LTE. [read more] >



 

Etisalat has signed an agreement with Alcatel-Lucent to extend the UAE-based carrier’s LTE coverage across its global footprint. The deal includes a new partnership in Sri Lanka and is intended to help Etisalat develop an efficient and sustainable platform to deliver 4G services to its subscribers. [read more] >



 

Japanese operator Softbank Mobile has selected Ericsson’s services routers as its main evolved packet core packet gateway node. Ericsson said the deployment was prompted by a need to secure network quality despite an explosion of data that has seen Japan lead the world in terms of average mobile traffic per user. AT&T has partnered with cloud-based service and software provider, Axeda, to present an innovative way for businesses to manage and monitor their M2M connections across the globe. United Fiber & Data (UFD) has announced plans to construct a new fibre-optic network to offer a low latency path from New York to Ashburn Virgina. The connection is designed to connect destinations in the US for peering and high bandwidth networking. [read more] >
