Tele2 taps Ericsson for mobile backhaul network expansion

Tele2 has entered into an agreement with Ericsson for the expansion and upgrade of its mobile backhaul network in Europe.

Under the deal Ericsson will provide Tele2 with its microwave radio solution, support services and training across the carrier’s European operations which include Norway, Sweden, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Germany, Austria and Croatia.

The deployment is being carried out as the widespread use of smartphones and tablets dramatically increases mobile network traffic.

"We have supplied MINI-LINK microwave products to Tele2 for several years and are pleased to be able to continue to support Tele2's expansion. Ericsson's MINI-LINK microwave product range will provide Tele2 with a future-proof solution that supports both older technologies, such as GSM and 3G, and large volumes of IP data traffic in next-generation LTE networks," said Robert Puskaric, president of northern Europe and central Asia at Ericsson.

Ericsson said that one of the advantages of its product was the ability to create both all-IP networks and networks evolving from TDM to packet technology.
