du to converge fixed and mobile network services

UAE operator du has deployed IP routing technology from Alcatel-Lucent as it aims to converge fixed and mobile network services.

The move to a single IP-based network is said to help simplify network operations while eliminating the need to manage multiple networks. It hopes to support the growing demand for high-speed broadband access, IPTV services and mobile video in the UAE.

As part of its agreement with du, Alcatel-Lucent will deploy an IP/MPLS solution as well as provide a range of project management, network design, installation and commissioning, software integration and operation services.

The first phase of the project was completed last month, with several sites across Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Al Ain now carrying mobile traffic.

“Convergence of fixed and mobile networks is a logical evolutionary step in our growth story. This stems from the increasing propensity of our customers to access everything from a single device,” said Osman Sultan, CEO of du.
