Cut mobile prices in Mumbai, says Telenor

Telenor has threatened to quit operating in the Mumbai region of India unless regulators cut the price of mobile licences.

Chief executive Jon Fredrik Baksaas said today that Telenor would exit the region unless prices were cut.

According to Reuters, the Supreme Court of India said on Monday that mobile phone carriers, whose licences were due to be revoked this week as part of an earlier court order, would be allowed to continue services until the case was heard on February 4 2013.

Baksaas told Reuters: “There is still no doubt that the price must be significantly lowered to make it possible for us to stay in Mumbai”.
