Interxion to provide connectivity to AWS Direct Connect

European data centre provider Interxion has reached an agreement with Level 3 Communications and Amazon Web Services (AWS) to provide access to the AWS Direct Connect platform in its data centres.

AWS Direct Connect is designed to allow customers to establish a dedicated network connection from their existing IT infrastructure to AWS. It aims to increase bandwidth throughput, reduce costs and enhance network experience.

The move will ensure the service is provided in Interxion’s 32 data centres across 11 countries in Europe. Through Level 3’s

global network coverage and on-net presence at all Interxion data centres, customers across Europe are said to be able to access the AWS Direct Connect platform.

They can then specify their location and their preferred network service provider with their AWS Direct Connect port request.

“We have provided Interxion customers with the ability to connect to our global network for years,” said James Heard, Level 3’s regional president of EMEA. “We’re delighted to be strengthening this relationship by enabling connectivity to AWS Direct Connect from Interxion’s European city locations.”

The service is said to be particularly attractive to customers that use large data sets and real-time data feeds or need to satisfy regulatory requirements by using private network connections.
