Hondutel launches tender for mobile unit stake

Honduran state-owned operator Hondutel has reportedly launched a tender for a minority stake in its mobile subsidiary Empresa Hondureña de Telefonía Móvil (Ehmovitel) as it looks to remain competitive in the market.

The 49% stake in the unit is being targeted primarily at a foreign investor and at least 19 interested parties are in talks with the company, according to El Economista.

Previous reports have linked Israel’s LR Group and Uruguay’s Antel with the sale and interested parties are also said to include Guatamala’s Fideco Datang Mobile and US company Rhino.

Tender documents for the stake can be acquired up until December 18 with bidding scheduled for January 2 2013.

Ehmovitel comprises of all mobile units set up by Hondutel including Tegucel, Sulacel, Olanchocel, Copancel, Cholucel and Ceibacel and will provide services in the 1900MHz band, according to Telecompaper.
