Deutsche Telekom trials cloud IP network

Deutsche Telekom has launched its first pilot of TeraStream, a network based on cloud enabled IP architecture, in Croatia.

TeraStream is designed to transform the way telecoms networks are built and will significantly reduce IT complexity by applying the cloud model to network architecture, according to Deutsche.

The field trial is taking place in Zagreb, providing residential users “ultra-fast” broadband services on a network operated by Deutsche subsidiary, Hrvatski Telekom.

"Technology is key to success in our industry. TeraStream is a revolution in network architecture - creating a lean and simple backbone that is ready for the enormous traffic increase of the future and new services. With this pilot in Croatia we are leading within the industry. Hrvatski Telekom is a pioneer for the entire group," said Claudia Nemat, board member for Europe and technology at Deutsche Telekom.

Deutsche has developed the network concept over the past two years to address exponential traffic growth forecast by analysts.
