AT&T partners with Akamai for CDN solutions

Akamai has signed a strategic alliance with AT&T to deliver a range of CDN solutions for the US provider.

AT&T has taken the step to combine its IP network with a global suite of Akamai CDN services, and it will be fully supported by both companies. The providers will initially tailor services in North America, with plans to expand globally over the next 12 months.

With an explosive growth in the use of video and other content streams, both AT&T and Akamai are integrating the services within their operations to their end users. CDN solutions for AT&T will be designed to aid enterprises in simplifying content distribution management and help consumers in accessing the internet.

Akamai will deploy the service on the edge of AT&T’s IP network and in the company’s facilities across the US. AT&T said it will transfer existing CDN operations, customers and services to the Akamai platform in 2013.

“By embedding Akamai’s technology within AT&T’s IP network, our customers now have use of solutions that more than meet their need for content delivery and support,” said Andy Geisse, CEO at AT&T Business Solutions.

“In an environment where companies and consumers alike are accessing video content and applications online and from a multitude of devices, I can’t think of a better way to address the explosive growth in content that is sweeping across industries like media and retail.”

Paul Sagan, president and CEO at Akamai, said his company and AT&T share a common goal of “developing solutions to maximise the web and mobile end user experience”.
