‘Libon’ is a free iOS communication app available in 90 countries that is said to enable users to make free global HD voice calls, send text messages and create voicemails.
The move puts Orange in direct competition with services such as Skype and WhatsApp. Other major European operators such as Deutsche Telekom and Telefónica have also launched similar apps earlier this year.
Free calling and texting services have continued to impact revenues of telecoms operators worldwide, with carriers forced to make larger network investments to keep up with traffic growth without seeing a return on their investment.
