MetroPCS reports positive Q3 results

US mobile service provider MetroPCS has posted a higher quarterly profit after a rise in demand for its 4G LTE services.

The company, which is subject to a merger bid from T-Mobile USA, as part of Deutsche Telekom, revealed that net income rose to $193 million, at 52 cents a share in Q3 2012, from $69 million, at 19 cents a share a year earlier.

Total revenue also rose by 4% to $1.3 billion. It had net subscriber losses of 312,291 in the same period, as rivalling companies in the US ramp up their 4G LTE service offering.
