Interoute and Infinera partner for 100Gb Ethernet solution

Interoute has launched 100Gb Ethernet services in partnership with digital software vendor Infinera.

Interoute will offer 100Gb Ethernet services across Europe, spanning 60,000km of lit fibre, connecting 30 countries in 102 cities. The pan-European operator, which links from Stockholm to Sicily, Moscow to Madrid and London to Istanbul made the upgrade to 100Gb Ethernet to keep up with demand.

By integrating 100Gb Ethernet service support on the DTN into Interoute’s highly meshed network, the company hopes it will be able to address high demand for bandwidth.

Interoute claims other carriers using multiple 10Gbps can become complex and expensive, and taking the option of 100Gb Ethernet provides higher bandwidth efficiency and throughput for data networks, including lower cost per Gig.

“Interoute and Infinera have worked together to integrate industry leading technology for a number of years,” said Matthew Finnie, CTO at Interoute. “The ability to adapt our existing Infinera DTN network to 100Gb Ethernet next-generation services demonstrates the inherent value of the Infinera architecture. It protects our investment for the future services that we need to provide our customers to stay competitive.”

Infinera says its platform further allows Interoute to benefit from reduced size, power, costs and improved reliability, resulting in lower capital and operational expenses while operating a more flexible optical network.
