TeliaSonera is accused of paying funds into an offshore company that is connected to president Islam Karimov’s daughter, in order to secure a 3G permit in Uzbekistan.
Local reports in Sweden suggested Nyberg was on the verge of resigning before his term ends in December next year.
In a statement issued this morning, TeliaSonera chairman Anders Narvinger said: “TeliaSonera’s board of directors has full confidence in chief executive Lars Nyberg.”
Nyberg’s contract ends in December next year and TeliaSonera said it had already initiated the process to replace the chief executive before the Uzbek issue had began.
Just last week TeliaSonera began legal proceedings against the claims, and Swedish prosecutors opened an investigation to identify whether the deal involved money laundering or corruption.
Nyberg has publically stated he will step down if the company is found guilty of wrongdoing.
