Main One joins data centre alliance

Submarine cable and data centre provider Main One Cable Company has joined The International Data Centre Group (IDC-G), a global alliance of carrier neutral data centres, as part of an increased focus on its data centre business.

The move comes as Main One plans the construction of additional data centres in Lagos, Nigeria, to add to its existing site at the Main One cable landing station in the city.

The company also operates another data centre at its cable landing site in Accra, Ghana.

Both of Main One’s facilities are connected to the company’s 1.92Tbps submarine cable system, which connects Nigeria, Ghana and Portugal.

“The alliance with the International Data Centre Group will create knowledge sharing platforms which we can leverage to further strengthen our data centre operations in West Africa. In addition, the business networking opportunities will further help raise the awareness of the tremendous opportunities for data centre operations in West Africa,” said Funke Opeke CEO of Main One.

The addition of Main One will add West Africa to the IDC-G’s footprint as part of its focus on emerging and high growth markets.

“Main One, led by Funke Opeke, who really is an exemplary visionary, has made a great impact on the African market, especially in Nigeria. We cannot be more pleased to have such a major player in West Africa on board,” said Guy Willner, Executive Chairman of International Data Centre Group.
