Telekom Austria partners with Ericsson for network upgrade

Telekom Austria Group has signed a multi-standard radio access network contract with Ericsson to upgrade its 2G and 3G networks and provide LTE infrastructure for its Austrian subsidiary, A1, and Croatian subsidiary, Vipnet.

By deploying the multi-standard radio network, Telekom Austria will be able to utilise multiple communications standards on its infrastructure, including; 2G, 3G and 4G.

The contract builds upon a long-standing partnership between the two companies and is expected to improve the user experience of Telekom Austria’s 23 million customers.

"Our users always come first and that's why we're so committed to continue enhancing the customer experience for our subscribers. We felt confident in deciding for Ericsson, already our supplier of 2G and 3G. We will be happy to see our subscribers in Austria and Croatia reap immediate benefits from having access to the latest network technologies," said Hans Pichler, CTO at Telekom Austria Group.

Ericsson will provide both its flexible radio access network solution and RVS 6000 multi-standard base stations for the deployment, and has already begun rolling out the infrastructure.
