EU reaches decision on Orange Austria deal

The European Commission has reportedly allowed Hutchison’s bid for Orange Austria to go ahead, provided the combined entity allows MVNOs to access its network.

Austria’s Wirtschaftsblatt publication said that the EU had asked interested parties for comment on its proposals, including interconnection fees.

Plans for the €1.3 billion takeover were first revealed in Februaryand have been subject to regulatory scrutiny both domestically and from the EU.

In April, regulator, the Telekom-Control Commission (TKK), said that Austria’s 4G spectrum auction would be delayed until the takeover saga had run its course.

Another aspect of the deal also subject to approval is the proposed sale of Orange’s Yesss! brand and customer base to Telekom Austria (TA), a move that would raise TA’s market share by 5% to 47%.

The EU Commission has been examining the Orange Austria acquisition since May and will make a final decision on the deal by November 6.
