According to Reuters, a Rabobank infrastructure fund is looking to make the investment, with KPN seeking to divest thousands of cell phone towers that are used for its German mobile unit E-Plus.
Rabobank has acquired towers from KPN in the past, and believes the true value of such infrastructure lies in offering the masts to other European network operators such as Deutsche Telekom and O2.
KPN has tried and failed to sell off its E-Plus assets as a way of improving its financial position, and fending off the advances from América Móvil owner Carlos Slim, who now owns a 28% share in the Dutch operator.
KPN has reportedly said it is looking for more investment in its home market, and is looking to make investments in network capacity to cope with the explosion of data.

The fund owns approximately 800 phone masts in the Netherlands. KPN has declined to comment on the rumours.
