The services are managed by MTN Business and will provide high quality, low latency internet access to wholesalers, internet bandwidth resellers and carriers, as well as mobile users across the country, according to IT News Africa.
MTN’s chief enterprise solutions officer, Babatunde Osho, told the publication that making use of WACS will allow internet users and businesses to boost their internet connections.
The WACS cable system, which links southern Africa, west Africa and Europe, went live on May 11. It is 14,500km in length and utilises a four fibre pair 128 wavelength system, with a design capacity of 5.12 Tbps.
Landing stations for the cable are in Namibia, Angola, the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Republic of Congo, Cameroon, Nigeria, Togo, Ghana, Cote d'Ivoire, Cape Verde, the Canary Islands, Portugal and the UK with a PoP in London.
