SingTel partners with HP to launch private cloud for Singaporean government

SingTel has selected HP as its strategic partner for the Singapore government’s cloud project (G-Cloud).

The two companies will implement private cloud computing infrastructure for all government agencies in Singapore as part of a five-year tender awarded by the Infocomm Development Authority (IDA).

Bill Chang, SingTel’s MD of business group, group ICT, said the project will “deliver an innovative and dedicated pool of shared IT resources to enable all government agencies to scale up their IT infrastructure with cloud services rapidly without having to make any significant hardware or software investments”.

SingTel and HP collaborated on the launch of the first public cloud services in Singapore through the “Alatum” branding in 2008. SingTel was also recently awarded the renewal of the “Alatum” Cloud Services Bulk Tender by IDA to offer public cloud services to the government.

“Singapore’s G-Cloud will be built on HP’s CloudSystem, integrating hardware, software and services to provide shared, scalable and resilient cloud computing resources. HP also brings leading cloud innovation through the resources of HP Labs Singapore,” said Jim Merritt, SVP and GM of enterprise group at HP Asia-Pacific & Japan.
