Tele2 to upgrade Baltic networks to 4G

Tele2 has selected Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) as its supplier for 4G networks in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.

Under the contract, NSN will also upgrade and expand Tele2’s GSM and 3G networks and provide its network management system to monitor and optimise Tele2’s network.

“We wanted to further improve the coverage and quality of mobile services for our customers by expanding and upgrading our existing networks to the latest technology. In addition, with increased adoption of smart devices and demand for high-speed data services, we want to build LTE networks in the Baltics,” said Niklas Sonkin, central Europe and Eurasia market area director, Tele2.

“It’s critical for operators such as Tele2 to upgrade their existing networks with future proof technologies to save equipment and operational costs today and tomorrow,” said Armando Almeida, head of Europe and Africa customers at NSN.
