Hi3G claims world’s first dual FDD/TDD LTE network

Hi3G Access Sweden, the mobile subsidiary of Hutchison Whampoa, has launched a combined FDD/TDD 4G LTE network in partnership with Chinese technology provider ZTE. The company claims that it is the first commercial implementation of LTE FDD/TDD dual-mode technology.

The service will initially be available in the cities of Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmo with expansion plans across the rest of the country.

ZTE claims that the commercial dual-mode network will greatly enhance the network performance of Hi3G and provide better service experience to local users. The company signed the LTE network contract with Hi3G, in March 2011.

Wang Shouchen, general manager of ZTE, said: “With the advent of Nordic Mobile Telephone in 1981, the people in this region were the first to benefit from genuine cellular coverage. Thirty years on, they will be the first users to benefit from the services delivered by the world’s first dual-mode 4G network. And they can roam to other LTE networks all over the world.”
