Telefónica and China Unicom collaborate in M2M

Telefónica has signed a deal with China Unicom to promote the development of M2M and over the top services through its new Telefónica Digital platform.

This latest collaboration agreement extends a strategic alliance entered by the companies based on improving mobile services platforms, wholesale services and roaming agreements.

Telefonica said, through M2M, the companies will develop different technologies in cellular communications, identification by radiofrequency (RFID), sensors and global positioning systems (GPS). The joint collaboration will aim to boost capability of M2M and offer proposals in the market on a bigger scale-based on the different markets that Telefonica and China Unicom operate in.

M2M has been established as an important technology in the market, and many in the information and communications industry have made necessary investments to improve IT, internet and mobile communications networks through the platform. Both Telefonica and China Unicom will equally participate in the testing of the products and the investments required for development. In a joint statement, the companies also declared its intentions to extend the partnership through roaming, and have already agreed certain provisions that cater to M2M requirements.
