Orange and SITA sign data connectivity agreement

Orange Business Services has partnered with SITA, the first global mobile data services provider for the air transport industry, to supply global data connectivity to airlines.

Orange’s International M2M Centre (IMC) will supply SITA with 2G and 3G connections including 400 roaming agreements with global operators in over 180 countries. This partnership will enable the secure use of mobile data, M2M and application to person (A2P) technologies worldwide.

SITA supplies services to over 550 members in the air transport industry covering 90% of the total worldwide airline business.

“SITA believes that the industry is crying out for a global secure network for mobile devices,” said Francesco Violante, CEO at SITA. “Performance and security are concerns for critical applications such as electronic flight bags (EFBs) which are used to download flight plans and other data for pilots.”

SITA already provides mobile solutions to airlines that use data applications such as EFBs, wireless bag management and mobile passenger applications. It provides middleware, managed devices, Wifi in selected airports and global 3G data connectivity.

Vivek Badrinath, senior executive VP for Enterprise Services at France Telecom Orange and CEO of Orange Business Services added: “We are proud to add mobile data connectivity to our 10-year partnership with SITA on a large portfolio of telecommunications services.”
