Over $50 billion paid for outsourced services in 2009

Telecoms service providers worldwide paid network equipment vendors $50.4 billion in 2009 for outsourced services according to Infonetics Research’s report Service Provider Outsourcing to Vendors.

Infonetics Research forecasts that this segment of the outsourced services market will grow to $73.2 billion by 2014. The biggest revenue-generating tasks that equipment manufacturers provide for telecoms service providers are network maintenance, network build, network planning and design, and application service delivery. Much of the growth which is forecast in outsourced services is coming from EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) and Asia-Pacific.

IBM remains the worldwide revenue leader for outsourced services to telecoms service providers, although its market share decreased two percentage points in 2009 and the competition is as close as it has ever been.

Outsourcing vendors with the largest revenue gains in 2009 include HP, Ericsson, Huawei and ZTE.
