The project will span seven Chinese provinces including Guangdong, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Guangxi, Sichuan, Hunan and Jiangxi. For the project ZTE will provide a full series of SDN solutions including ZENIC vDC controller, Distributed Virtual Switch, V6000 vRouter, and virtual Firewall.

The SDN controller, VxLAN gateway, virtual switch at Network Virtual Endpoint (NVE), and virtual Firewall will be deployed on the virtual machines as software, which the company says will be the first application of such in China.

The cloud resource pool to be deployed by China Telecom will support multiple service platforms and IT systems. China Telecom say that the need for support for automatic resource pool deployment, multi-tenant service, resource pool interconnection while controlling the construction cost, is due to the popularity of the service.

Additionally the full series SDN solution from ZTE will support China Telecom’s demands helping it to implement enterprise transformation in the most economically beneficial way.

The first phase of the provincial cloud resource pre-commercial trial SDN project is the beginning of further introduction of SDN to the resource pool, says China Telecom. The company also adds that it is the first commercial project that supports the CTNet2025 network transformation strategy published by China Telecom in 2016.

In November, ZTE won a 47% share of the bid for China Unicom’s IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) network project. The IMS project that was announced back in 2013, will see China Unicom offer a range of new and applications such as VoLTE and RCS(Rich Communication Suite), one number with multiple devices, VoWiFi and 5G voice services etc.

As the winner of the largest share of the whole project, ZTE will serve 18.58 million subscribers and the construct China Unicom’s IMS network in 10 northern Chinese provinces and cities including: Beijing, Tianjin, Shandong, Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning, Hebei, Henan among others.
