The 1,746 km subsea cable is due to begin installation at the end of July, with Orange’s cable installation vessel, the M/V Pierre de Fermat, scheduled to leave Brest on the 14th July.

The new cable is comprised of two pairs of fibre, which will be able to offer transfer rates of approximately 5Tbps. With natives speeds of 1GbE and 10Gbps and Interface10G of 10GbE, OTU2/2e and OC192/STM64.

The new cable comes in response to handling the huge growth of digital activity and the resulting massive rise in data use, as well as to improve the quality of its network, Orange is deploying its own, new optical fibre submarine cable, to connect Martinique and French Guyana.

In addition, the new system will provide Interconnections with the Americas II subsea cable in Martinique (Le Lamentin) and in French Guyana. The total system spans 8200 km and connects Florida, the US Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Martinique, Curaçao, Trinidad, Venezuela, French Guiana, Suriname and Guyana, and Brazil.

Plus interconnection on East Caribbean Fibre System (ECFS) in Guadeloupe and Martinique. This 1,440 km cable interconnects 14 eastern Caribbean islands and offers 7Tbs per fibre pair on a 350-km unrepeatered link.

Orange Marine, the cable laying and maintenance subsidiary of Orange S.A, will construct and manage the new system.
