DE-CIX expands Munich presence with EMC HostCo deployment

DE-CIX has expanded its presence in Munich by launching services in a data centre in the Bavarian capital owned by EMC HostCo.

EMC HostCo’s Munich facility becomes the third DE-CIX enabled site in the German city, along with Equinix’s MU1 facility and SpaceNet’s data centre.

The additional site in Munich means DE-CIX services, such as DirectCLOUD, GlobePEER, GlobePEER Remote, and MetroVLA, will now be made available for partners connecting into the EMC HostCo facility.

It is the latest expansion for DE-CIX in its home German market, where it now has a presence in five cities – Dusseldorf, Hamburg, Berlin, Frankfurt and Munich.

DE-CIX serves 1300+ carriers, ISPs and content networks from 100+ countries, including leading international players in various metro markets in Europe, the Middle East, India and North America. Its Frankfurt site carries peak traffic of 6.4Tbps, one of the highest amounts in the world.

Dr. Thomas King, chief innovation officer at DE-CIX, said: “Munich is home to a diverse and broad range of global players and SMEs, large companies and start-ups, which makes it a very important location for DE-CIX strategically. Strengthening our presence there through new partnerships – such as that with EMC HostCo – is therefore an absolute priority.”

EMC HostCo offers scalable colocation and housing solutions for customers from industry, administration, media, banking, insurance, as well as cloud and Internet service providers from its site in Munich.

“Our partnership with DE-CIX is a potent indicator of Munich's digital heartbeat and a perfect complement to the strategy of our connectivity hub,” states Bernhard Huter, CEO at EMC HostCo.
