Infomart Data Centers has named data centre executive Donough Roche as its new chief operating officer.

The position was created to support Infomart’s strategy for growth and follows the news of its completion of six new data centre suites in Ashburn, Virginia that was announced earlier this month. The new data centre suite is the first of six 10,000 square-foot suites to be carried out by the company, each one with flexible power capacity of up to 3MW. Once completed, the entire facility will deliver up to 18MW of premium capacity to the North Virginia market.

“It is an exciting time to be joining Infomart. The company has an impressive list of clients and a culture that is always striving to improve their experience,” said Roche. “I look forward to working with the leadership team in support of our mission to become the provider of choice for wholesale deployments.”

In his new role, Roche will oversee operations, construction and development, as well as the sales of all of the company’s facilities reporting directly to Phil Koen, the company’s new chief executive officer and member of the board of directors. Koen himself entered the role earlier this month taking over from Infomart’s former founder and president, John Sheputis, who will remain with the company as an advisor while the board searches for a new CEO.

Roche enters the role with over 20 years’ experience in the data centre industry. Prior to joining Infomart he served as principal of Datacentrs.com, a consulting firm serving the global data centre market. Before that, he served for nine years at Digital Realty where he led its global sales engineering team. In addition, he brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in deep operating, sales and engineering from previous roles at Lee Technologies, Citibank and Verizon/MCI.

“Donough brings a wealth of operational experience to Infomart that will provide the foundation to enable us to achieve our strategic goals,” said Koen. “We are excited to have someone of his calibre join the company to help manage our growth as we ramp up the capacity we can offer to clients in each of our existing markets — Ashburn, Silicon Valley and Hillsboro.”
